Frequently Asked Questions

1. What services do you offer at Blume Speech and Language Therapy?

At Blume, we offer:

  • Pediatric speech and language therapy, with a focus on early language development

  • Adult communication and swallowing therapy for individuals with acquired brain injuries (e.g., stroke, TBI)

  • Behavioural consultations, led by our Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), for families seeking support with communication, emotional regulation, daily routines, and individualized strategies for autistic and neurodivergent children

  • Assessments, caregiver coaching, and collaborative care across disciplines

2. Do I need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment?

No referral is needed. You can reach out directly through our contact form or email. We’ll begin with a discovery call to ensure our services are a good fit.

3. Where are services provided?

We offer both in-person sessions in Windsor, Ontario, and virtual sessions across Ontario. We’re committed to making therapy flexible and accessible for all families.

4. What ages do you work with?

We work with:

  • Children ages 1 and up for speech, language, and behavioural support

  • Adults navigating communication changes after acquired brain injury

5. How do I know if my child needs speech or behavioural support?

If you’ve noticed delays in your child’s communication, frustration during everyday routines, or challenges with understanding and using language, a conversation can help clarify the next step. We offer free discovery calls to talk through your concerns and determine whether an assessment or consultation is appropriate.

6. What does a typical therapy or consultation session look like?

  • Speech and language sessions are play-based (for kids), individualized, and goal-driven. Parent coaching is often part of the session.

  • Adult sessions may focus on functional language, memory, or cognitive-communication strategies.

  • Behavioural consultations are collaborative and family-focused. You’ll meet with our BCBA to discuss your goals, identify strengths, and develop actionable plans that align with your values and your child’s needs.

7. Do you offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy?

Yes — this is a core part of our approach. We believe all communication is valid and meaningful. Our work respects each individual’s identity, communication style, and autonomy. We don’t focus on “fixing” or masking — we focus on connection, access, and building meaningful skills in respectful ways.

8. How do I get started?

Just head to our Contact page and submit a quick form. We’ll reach out to schedule your free discovery call and walk you through the next steps.
